Gorgany (from Romanian gorgan – Barrow) is a mountain massif in Ukrainian Carpathians, adjacent to Chornohora range. Situated in Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia regions and is 40 km (25 miles) wide. From northwest to southeast the width reaches 80 km (50 miles).

Gorgany are not very high (average 1,400-1,500 m or 4,600-4,900 ft), they have steep asymmetric slopes and sharp ridges. They are divided into 12 groups, include about 30 peaks, the highest of which is Velyka Syvulya mountain (1,836 m or 6,024 ft). To avoid confusion, remember that there are several peaks called “Gorgan” (Little Gorgan, Gorgan Vyshkivs'kyi, Gorgan Ilemskyy etc.).

Boundary Gorgany are low, with strongly dissected river valleys. Outer Gorgany occupy the highest part of the massif, they are medium-high and divided into several areas. For one of them - Dovbushanski Gorgany (between the valleys of Bystrytsya Nadvirnyanska and Prut rivers) are beautiful stone accumulations on the slopes and mountain tops.

Gorgany territories are a part of Carpathian National Nature Park, Gorgany nature reserve, Grofa landscape reserve, created to preserve Swiss stone pine.
