The highest mountain in Ukraine (2,061 m or 6,762 ft), located on the border of Ivano-Frankivsk (Nadvirna district) and Zakarpattia (Rakhiv district) regions, 17 km from the Romanian border. The mountain is located in Chornohora region. The name is of Romanian origin and means “hard ascent” or Hungarian hóvár – “snow top”. Snow on top of Hoverla really can be found even in summer.
The mountain slopes are covered with beech and spruce forests, shrub heath, sometimes – rock slides. At 1,500 meters (4,920 ft) the meadows begin. One of the origins of the Prut river – Prut Waterfall (height – 80 m) is located on the east side of the summit.
The mountain is located in protected areas of Carpathian Biosphere Reserve and the Carpathian National Nature Park (paid entrance, filming requires authorization documents).
Сlimbing to the top is only on foot – 2 hours in summer and 3-4 hours in winter.
