Shatsky ozera (Lakes of Shatsk) is a group of over 30 lakes located in the basins of Bug and Prypiat rivers (north-western part of Volyn region). Located among forest massifs, belong to Shatsky National Nature Park (32,500 ha or 80,309 acres). The biggest lake is Svitiaz (27,5 sq. km or 11 sq. mi). It’s the second biggest natural lake in Ukraine.
The lakes are low, with sand and pebble shores, sometimes – swamped areas. In summer water temperature goes rather high, in winter the lakes are frozen. The colour of water changes from yellowish-green in shallow lakes to emerald green in deep ones.
